The Electronic reference-information system «Lake of the Earth”» contains an information on large lakes of the world and on lakes investigated in the hydrological aspects. The system is intended for storage, for processing and for extraction of the information on water objects.

Work is carried out within the framework of the project of Presidium of the Russian Academy of Science «the Electronic Earth».

The information system «Lake of the Earth”» is one of the elements in structure of the distributed geographical databases and information systems which can serve as the independent instrument in the decision of some scientific and applied problems in the field of hydrometeorology, hydroecologies, wildlife management.
